I had the opportunity to shoot the Boise Color Run over the weekend on behalf of Souvenir Photograph and all I can say is, “WOW!” I’d once heard of The Color Run, but I had never experienced The Color Run, and experiencing The Color Run is key to fully appreciating The Color Run. If your town hosts one of these events, GO! These shots encapsulate what the meaning of the run is to me, and that is regardless of what is going on in the world and your life, you too can put all the negative aside for a few hours on a Saturday and just be. It was pure positive, and the vacuum of fun was contagious!
There is also something to be said for chalk, and I believe that each Color Run uses between eight and 10 metric tons of it. I had my gear wrapped, but if I get the chance to shoot the event next year I’ll invest in protection that isn’t DIY. I’m still scraping colored chalk out of my ears! My favorite moment? Of the many I had, there was a kid who I will refer to as “The Kid” (a little shout-out to my friend Macey Snelson, a truly amazing photographer out of Portland, OR). When I took a photo of The Kid and his mom he wanted to see each image and I felt sort of obligated to show him because he asked me; he was clearly in charge. Each time the shutter actuated, he’d run over to see the image and his excitement was palpable! It made me happy that of the 3,000 participants who had a great time, I had a hand in making The Kid’s day all the more enjoyable. Here’s to you The Kid! Till next time.
